In 1939, the Cuban arranger trumpeter and reedman Mario Bauzá convinced bandleader Cab Calloway to hire the young trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie. Gillespie fell in love Bauzá's arrangements and combination helped spark Latin jazz. We remember Dizzy & Mario and the fireworks fly on trumpet solos by Sean Jones and Jon Faddis. The Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra burns up Bauzá's Tanga Suite and Gillespie's Manteca. Written by Andrew Rosenblum.
